Redefining Education: AI's Role in Building Young Minds
At this talk:
- Define AI and understand the potential and challenges it presents in the classroom
- Learn how to practically adapt generative AI to your own needs and use cases
- Explore near-future implications, including how AI might change the roles of educators and counsellors, reshape learning processes, and prompt shifts in educational policies
About Mark Daley
Mark is the Chief AI Officer at Western University – the only Chief AI Officer at a Canadian University and the first in the world. He is a full professor in the Department of Computer Science with cross-appointments in five other departments, The Rotman Institute of Philosophy, and The Western Institute for Neuroscience. He is also a faculty affiliate of Toronto's Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence.
Mark has previously served as the Vice-President (Research) at the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR), and Chief Digital Information Officer, Special Advisor to the President, and Associate Vice-President (Research) at Western.
Mark is the past chair of Compute Ontario and serves on a number of other boards.

About Stephanie Hayne Beatty
Stephanie believes in the power of education to transform lives and has been a champion for it at the post-secondary level for more than 20 years. Starting her career at Western University in residence life, she has held numerous roles at the university and is now the Director of Leadership & Learning in the Student Experience division.
She oversees a broad portfolio of student services, including accessible education, transition programs, learning support, experiential learning, and career development. Leaning into frameworks like CliftonStrengths and Life Design, her team supports students to achieve personal success and build a life and career they love.
Stephanie holds a Doctor of Education from Western in Educational Leadership.

About Dr. Opiyo Oloya, MED, PhD, LLD (honoris causa)
Dr. Opiyo Oloya is the inaugural Associate Vice-President of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at Western University in London, Ontario. He was a teacher, principal and Superintendent of Education.
He was born in Pamin-yai village, west of Gulu town in northern Uganda.
He obtained a teaching degree at Queen’s in June 1986, a Master’s from the University of Ottawa in July 1988, and a PhD from York University. He was also awarded an honorary Doctorate of Law (LLD, honoris causa) by York University for his humanitarian work in 2012. He published Child to Soldier (2013) and Black Hawks Rising (2016).
He lives with his wife Emily and young men, Oceng and Ogaba.

About Marisa Modeski
Marisa Modeski was appointed to the role of University Registrar in May 2023.
Prior to joining Western, Marisa was previously the Associate Registrar and Director of Admissions & Student Recruitment at the University of Toronto Mississauga, and held progressively senior positions at the Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), including the Director of International Enrolment, the Assistant Director of Student Recruitment, among others.
Marisa holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Toronto Metropolitan University and an MA in leadership from the University of Guelph. She is also a graduate of the Strategic Enrolment Management Endorsement Program offered through the American Association of Collegiate Registrars & Admissions Officers.
Marisa is purple and proud and will start her Doctor of Education (EdD) at Western this September.

The MaRS Discovery District address is 101 College St, Toronto, ON M5G 1L7.
Parking
The MaRS underground lot can be accessed via Elizabeth Street, just south of College Street on the west side of the road. It can also be accessed via University Avenue when driving northbound, just past the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, south of College Street. Substantial additional parking is available at a host of parking garages and above ground lots within a two-block radius.
Pricing Weekdays 5AM - 5PM: $4 per half hour; $20 daily max. (expires at 10 p.m.)
Subway
MaRS offers direct access to the Queen’s Park subway station, with connecting service to Go Trains at Union Station.
Streetcar
The eastbound and westbound College Street streetcars (506 Carlton) stop directly outside MaRS at the intersections of College Street and University Avenue, as well as College Street and Elizabeth Street.
Charter Bus
The Toronto Coach Terminal is located just south of MaRS at Elizabeth Street and Edward Street.
Enter via the Heritage Building on 101 College Street. You'll find the Auditorium on the Lower Concourse, accessible by escalator or elevator.
